Synergy Oil & Gas, headquartered in Long Beach, California, was founded by John D.
McKeown in 2012. The company currently operates one of the largest oil fields in Southern
California and, in 2018, completed a significant expansion through the Los Cerritos Wetlands Oil
Consolidation Project.
This unique initiative focused on the closure of 39 wells situated across 156 acres of
environmentally sensitive wetlands, while consolidating and expanding drilling operations to two
newly developed sites totaling 10 acres adjacent to the wetlands. Synergy received full approval
from the City of Long Beach and the State of California to drill up to 120 new wells from these
two parcels, as well as to construct modern, state-of-the-art oil and gas processing facilities.
As part of the project, Synergy successfully decommissioned and removed existing oil wells and
processing infrastructure, restoring the full 156 acres to their original pristine wetland condition.
The restoration also includes the development of a new visitor center and an observation trail for
public use and community engagement. In partnership with One Amazon founded by Rodrigo
Velosa, Synergy has expanded into Latin America with One Synergy with the same emphases on
oil field operations and enhancement with the highest level of environmental stewardship.
Today, Synergy Oil & Gas operates three oil and gas fields with over 50 operating wells in
Long Beach and Seal Beach, California, the company will drill an additional 60 wells over
the next 32 months.

John D. McKeown is a seasoned executive, energy industry leader, entrepreneur, and international developer with more than 30 years of experience
spanning oil and gas, real estate, and infrastructure development. Based in Long Beach, California, he is the Owner, President, and Chief Executive
Officer of Synergy Oil & Gas, where he oversees complex energy operations and has led one of California’s most ambitious environmental
initiatives—transforming an active oil field into one of the largest wetlands restoration projects in the United States.This landmark public-private
partnership, developed in collaboration with the City of Long Beach, the California Coastal Conservancy, and the California Coastal Commission,
reflects Mr. McKeown’s commitment to aligning responsible energy development with environmental stewardship and community benefit.
Internationally, Mr. McKeown serves as Developer and Principal Investor of Puerto Barú, a modern, environmentally responsible port project located
in David, Panama. Developed in partnership with North American investors and Panamanian logistics experts, Puerto Barú is designed to strengthen
Panama’s trade infrastructure and support economic growth in the Chiriquí region. He oversees this and other international initiatives through
Ocean Pacific Investments, a firm he founded in 2018, supported by a dedicated Panama-based team. Ocean Pacific Investments is also advancing
Puerto Bocas, a 1,700-acre multi-use port development on Panama’s Atlantic coast in the Bocas del Toro region. Through these ventures, Mr. McKeown
brings extensive experience working alongside leading global shipping and port operating companies.
